Orange, Green, Pink and Purple

Holy Moly I have a lot of pictures this time and so I am just going to share a few of the things we did the last week.  It has been so much fun seeing the kids coming to school wearing the color of the day. And they are so excited!

Orange Day

We read the book Pumpkin Hill.  After reading the book we got out a real pumpkin and they got to feel the outside of it and feel how heavy it was. I also asked the kids what was inside the pumpkin. They all yelled out "seeds"! Except for one little girl who told us there are pumpkin brains inside! (Now you know :) ) I cut it open so we could see the inside and feel how squishy and slimy it felt. They got to make their own pumpkin and glue lots of seeds on it.

Practicing our cutting skills

Finished product! Although he added some legs to his pumpkin after I took the picture.

If you're looking for a yummy fall treat try this pumpkin pie shake recipe.

1/2 cup pumpkin puree
3/4 cup vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup milk
1 to 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (more if you like it that way)
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg

Mix it all up and then enjoy your pumpkin pie as a milk shake.

Green Day

We talked about the primary colors we learned last week and then had some fun mixing them to make new colors.

Orange, purple and green

After this we read the book Where is the Green Sheep? I loved this book! It had so many funny pictures and the kids loved trying to find the green sheep. We made our own green sheep by gluing on cotton balls and then coloring the cotton with markers. You can also use a dry tempera powder paint to dye your cotton balls but I was all out. We re-read the book and used our sheep as puppets to make them act out the book. They had fun making their sheep blow in the wind, slide down a slide, and lots of other stuff.

Pink Day (pig day)

What a fun day! We watched the fairy tale "The Three Little Pigs". I have the book but the short film is so silly and the kids love the songs that go with it.

We also talked about why pigs love to roll in the mud to help them cool off. They got to make their own muddy pig out of brown paint and shaving cream. My room smelt so good!

We made pig cupcakes for cooking. The were delicious. I made strawberry cupcakes the night before and then they got to decorate them. The frosting was pink lemonade flavor. Yum! Yum!

Purple Day

Whenever I think of purple I think of royalty and fancy clothes. Don't ask me why?  :) So we made purple crowns and they loved decorating their names with glitter glue. We also played a game called purple cow. Basically, it started off being the first person to make a noise was the purple cow and got to hold the stuffed animal. Well very quickly they all wanted to be the purple cow so they all started making noise. :) We changed the game to be the last person to not smile or laugh got to be the Purple Cow. This was so much fun and we all couldn't stop laughing.

We also made a Purple Cow Drink:
Grape Juice, Milk, and Vanilla Ice Cream mixed together in the blender. The kids LOVED it!

Hope you are all having a great month! I can't believe how quickly it has gone by. I sure love teaching your kids.
