September 2018

Our first day of class is always a success with the book The Kissing Hand. They love being reminded that mommy and daddy still love them at home even when they are at school and we learn that we can tell our family lots of new things after a great day at school! This day we did a lot of games to get to know everyone in class and build our community. We practice practice practice rules and how to go through each routine each day.

We have been having the best time with our color theme the last month. We started out with the color red and did some different apple tasting graphs, made our own apples and practiced cutting skills, worked on our letters on an apple tree and enjoyed some fun games and getting to know our class some more as well as some games to learn our class rules.

The kids enjoyed our story of the little child that was supposed to find a little red house with no windows and no doors but a star inside and loved when I cut open the apple to reveal a star.

Apple tree game, each letter had a fun actions to match the letter that we got some of our energy and movement out.

Working on numbers with our new cow matching game. Of course I had to buy the cow game since I have an obsession with cute cows :)
Lots of practice writing our names this month and tracing.

Blue day we made blue bugs, played some balloon parachute games, practiced some motor skills of jumping forwards and backwards. They also loved playing our little mouse game and hiding the mouse behind different colored houses.

Lots of shapes with our tanagrams
 Matching uppercase and lowercase letters

Pete the cat only likes certain letters on different days. Today he liked letter B words and we had to listen for the sound. He loves saying "Goodness No!" with the wrong sounds and "It's All Good" when we find the right letter.

Bingo dotting our numbers, lots of practice with baby dots and not big giant puddles.

Sorting bears into the right colored house

Yellow is my favorite color! So happy and warm like the sun. We made our own suns and stamped and glued. We made lists of things that were yummy and yucky and worked on our sound of letter Y. We danced with yellow streamers and played a yellow duck math game.

P is for pink pigs. We worked on letter P this day and the sound it makes with different games and read alouds. They stamped their letter P, made a farm picture, and we acted out the story of the 3 little pigs.

Fun finding shapes and letters around the room.

Color mixing day. We learned the three primary colors and found out what happened when we mixed them together.

Red light green light on Green Day.  We also read the story Where is the Green Sheep and made our own green sheep. We worked on our numbers with a green action game and got lots of wiggles out.

On purple day we made a purple cow drink that half of the kids liked and the rest made sure to tell me it was gross. haha! We practiced letter sounds and our purple cow stuffed animal only liked letter C words and would moo on each one. We read the story Harold and the purple Crayon and then made our own creations and made our King and Queen crowns.

Play time and dressing up is always one of their favorite times of the day. They love make believing and making friends with everyone.

On orange day we did a lot with pumpkins. We learned about how a pumpkin grows and the different stages of each part of the plant. We made our own pumpkins and glued pumpkin seeds on it. We had fun starting centers this day and worked with play dough making pumpkins for our pumpkin patch, jack-o-lantern matching and counting and matching the correct number.

We did a number bingo game at snack time to earn a little pumpkin candy

Black and white day was our last day and we had lots of fun with spiders. We made a spider friendship web and said something nice about each friend in our class. We worked on tracing letters and writing our name more. We used a big giant spider I made out of a fly swatter to slap each letter we needed to find and we made a spider our of the number 8. The kids couldn't believe spiders really had 8 eyes and loved gluing on 8 eyes and 8 legs. We made a yummy spider snack out of Oreos and pull apart licorice. And everyday we have been singing singing singing! We love singing to songs to get ready to listen, songs to learn our months of the year and days of the week, songs to learn our colors, songs to say hello and goodbye and just fun songs to move and dance.

I tried to get lots of pictures but we are often busy working and having fun while we do it! These classes are the best and I am loving them so much. I hope they are having as much as I am! We are excited for our field trip next week to Hee Haw Farms. See you all soon.
