2018 January/February and some of March

Sorry, I got behind on posting this year! We have been all sorts of busy working hard and learning lots. Here are a few pictures of some of the things we have done.

In January we worked on our Arctic Animal unit. We learn all about polar bears and penguins and do some fun science experiments to learn how they survive the cold weather. We learn about icebergs and have some fun with "make your own snow" for our winter unit.

We learned about reptiles and how they are different from mammals. For centers this day we read a book A Color of His Own and painted a chameleon. They put together a matching colored snake puzzle, made reptiles with play do, made snakes out of tanagrams, practiced letter recognition with our alligator puppet, frog number hop game and feed the lizard number game.

We learned about mail carriers being community workers. We wrote notes to our parents and practiced tracing our addresses. We put on stamps and put them in our mailbox. We also left a treat for the mail man to enjoy for all his hard work.

In January we enjoyed going to Macey's grocery store and getting a tour of all the things they do to help us have food and supplies.

We learned about letter Q and talked a lot about money (Quarters) and decorated our letter Q like a queen.

We have been working on lots of our letters. We explored the Solar System and learned about the sun and the stars.

We spent a week learning about our 5 senses and playing all sorts of games to go along with each sense. They loved making this craft with all sorts of different things to show the different senses they have.

We had fun getting ready for our field trip to Little Red this year. We learned all about what makes a fairy tale and read different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. We reenacted it and the kids loved dressing up in different costumes. We had so much fun at the play bringing our moms, dads and grandmas.

Valentine's Day was so much fun and they loved all the activities we did and sharing their valentines. We talked about our own heart and ways we can keep it healthy through exercise and eating healthy.

We spent an additional week learning about the food pyramid and good foods vs. not so good food. We talked about dental health as well and ways to keep our teeth healthy. We also learned about the letter U and things that we might find Under the sea. They stamped letter U's and added underwater creatures to it.

We made a Volcano erupt for fun one day after learning about volcanoes. Always one of their favorite activities.

We have been learning about weather this month during March. I like to teach them the saying that March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb. We made a craft to remember this and learned about the weather cycle. We had fun doing an obstacle course of jumping on rain puddles, climbing over the rainbow and touching the clouds.

We love celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday and reading a lot of his books. We stacked ten apples up on top of the Cat in the Hat and measured how many apples tall we are. We played some fun rhyming games . We played some Cat in the Hat games and made our own rhyming word hat and got our faces painted. We finished the day off with a green egg and ham treat.

For Letter X we learned about getting an X ray and looked at real X-rays of animals. They made their own little paper doll with bones and painted a letter X mural.

We learned about another community helper this month. Police officers have important jobs and we learned what number to call when we have an emergency. WE read the story Officer Buckle and Gloria and made our own police hat. We played red light/green light and talked about what to do if we get lost.

St. Patrick's Day was a lot of fun trying to catch the leprechaun that got into our classroom and made a mess. We played some leprechaun letter games, learned the order of the rainbow, and went on a hunt to find a pot of gold with some fun leprechaun treats.

It has been a wonderful year so far! I can't believe how quickly it is going. These kids make everyday so wonderful.
