February is for Friends

What a fun month we had with all our friends at preschool!

We started the month off with Groundhog's Day. The kids loved making a little craft and we learned a poem to go along with it. They were so excited that the groundhog didn't see his shadow. The next week was freezing. Haha! We also learned about our 5 senses. We tasted different food like unsweetened chocolate for bitter, chips for salty, lemon for sour and gummy worms for sweet. For sight we looked at different objects and then I would take one away and they had to tell what was missing. For hearing we brought different things from home that made noise and the kids got to hide behind a blanket and make the noise until someone guessed what it was. They loved this game! For touch I hid different objects in black socks and they had to try and guess what it was by feeling.  And for smell we read a fun book called "What's that Awful Smell" and then they painted a picture with different Kool Aid colors. The room smelt like starburst. :) And for our final project we made a picture that had something to go along with all the 5 senses.

We loved going to the Peter Pan play at Scera Theater.

For our Valentine party we learned about our hearts and how to keep them healthy. We did some heart healthy exercising and checked to see how fast our hearts were beating. We practiced sorting objects by their beginning sound into the correct letter bucket. We played a game called Who do you love? similar to fruit basket and moving to different seats. We played spin the bottle and they had to say something nice about who the bottle landed on. At the end they each got a hershey kiss. We made Valentine people and passed out their valentines.

For Dental Health month we had a week all about our teeth. We talked about different ways to keep our teeth clean and sang a fun song to go along with brushing and flossing. We cut out different foods and sorted them onto the happy and sad tooth based off if they were good or bad for our teeth. The kids played a math game and rolled a dice with a friend. They had to find the matching number tooth and stamp it with a bingo dotter.  Amy from Super Healthy Kids came and taught the kids about the different food groups and what they do for our bodies. They loved playing a game she brought that had different riddles to guess what the matching fruit or vegetable was.

For letter U we talked about things that are under something and things that go up. We sang a song called Under the Underpass. Two kids held hands and were the underpass and the rest of us drove under them to go to different places. We made a picture of fish underwater and they added some other  things to the picture of animals that live underwater. We got out our parachute as well and I had a bunch of sea animals that we put under our parachute. The kids had to "dive" underwater and get an animal. We then listened to the beginning sound of the word and wrote the letter down on a poster board. For snack time we made a beach with and umbrella to sit under.

Matching upper and lowercase letters during centers.

V is for Volcano

This is always a favorite day for the kids. They made Volcano art out of the letter V and we added some dinosaurs to our picture. We also made some volcanoes out of salt dough. We added baking soda and some food coloring and then added the vinegar to make them erupt. Mrs. Chelise came and did friendship yoga this day as well.

For centers we picked up letter with magnets.

Thank you Mrs. Chelise! The kids loved this day. I am excited for March and all the units we will be focusing on. I will be sending home a newsletter on Monday and Tuesday so you can see everything we will be doing. Hope you have a great Weekend! See you soon.
