November 2012

I can't believe how quickly time flies by! Sorry I didn't get these pictures in before Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a great holiday and had a lot of fun with your family. Here are some of the fun things we have been doing.

We have been learning lots about community helpers this month. Here are some of the activities we did to go along with each worker.

Fire Fighters:

We read some books about their duties and then made a fire truck snack.
We made a Fire Fighter puppet dog.

And visited our local Fire Station.

Police Officers: We read the book, "Officer Buckle and Gloria" and another book that explains the job a policeman has. We took our fingerprints and examined them with magnifying glasses. We discussed how every person in the world has different finger prints.

Then we made some police badges.

Doctors and Nurses

We had a real nurse come talk to us about her job and show us her stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.

Then we made some doctor kits that had a mask, gloves, cotton balls and swabs, and band aids in it.
We made our own stethoscopes out of egg carton cups and yarn.

Bakers
I didn't get a lot of pictures of this day but we made our own baker hats and then we looked at all the tools that the baker uses and made some yummy chocolate chip cookies!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I am so grateful for all my crazy little Turkeys!

Class Pictures! I have the cutest and smartest kids ever. I will be sending these home soon for you to have a copy but thought I would post some for you to enjoy right now.

Tuesday/Thursday class

Wednesday Class

Missing one little guy. Will add him next week. :)

And last but not least we made these Count Down to Christmas snowmen. It was suppose to be a Santa Claus from the site I found on Pinterest but it turned out more like a snowman when I simplified it. Just cut off a number each day and watch him melt away until Christmas gets here.

Election Day, Letter I, Ice and a change in the schedule

Hey you guys! We had so much fun last week. I can't wait to tell you all about it. But first of all I wanted to remind everyone of our schedule this month since a lot of kids were out sick or on vacation last week.

Wednesday, November 14th: Picture day for my wednesday kids. Don't forget to wear your orange preschool shirt.

Thursday, November 15th: Our Thanksgiving Feast. :) Normal class schedule but we will have fun eating lots of food and making some crafts!

Tuesday, November 20th: Field trip to the Fire Station in Lehi right by the Legacy Center @ 10:00am. Don't forget to wear your preschool shirt this day.

Wednesday and Thursday, November 21st and 22nd: No school due to Thanksgiving. I didn't realize Alpine District had Wednesday off so this is a change.

Ok, back to last week. Here are some of the things we did.

The week started off with election day. We talked about what it means to vote and cast a ballot. I also showed the kids a picture of our current president (Obama) and a picture of (Romney) who was also running for president. We talked about where the president lives and all the different states he is in charge of. Afterwards they got to have their own election and cast a ballot for either jello or cheese for snack time today.

After they casted their vote they even got a sticker that said, "I Voted!" they were so excited about this.

Yes it looks like Jello was the winner.

 6 to 3
Some of the books we read together today.

They loved talking about all the different states and finding Utah as well as some other states where their cousins and grandparents live.
They really liked  a picture of the White House that I showed them and loved finding Washington D.C. on the map.

Another thing we learned about today was money. I showed them large pictures of all the coins and we talked about the presidents pictures on each coin.
We then made some streamers and had our own parade. Just used a straw and taped on some crete paper. We sang this song while we marched in our parade.

Sung to the tune "Mary Had a Little Lamb"

Our flag is Red, white, and blue. Red, white and blue. Red, white and Blue. Our flag is red, white and blue. In the U.S.A.

Our flag has 50 stars, 50 stars, 50 stars. Our flag has 50 stars. In the U.S.A.

Our flag has 13 stripes, 13 stripes, 13 stripes. Our Flag has 13 stripes. In the U.S.A.

Letter I day: We talked about the word "If". I found this cute idea on Brilliant Beginnings Preschool blog. We used it for journal writing today. If a turkey came gobbling into my bedroom, I would...
We had just read a book about a town that wanted to catch a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. I don't think I would read this again next year because all they wanted to do was kill the turkey. :(

We also did this fun Ice activity. I will be doing this more with my own kids. It was so easy and they LOVED it! Just freeze some toys in some ice and then be creative thinking of ways to melt the ice and get the toys out.

They first tried to blow on it.

Then used ice picks to try and break the ice. This worked a little but not too much. We used little corn on the cob picks.
We also poured a bunch of salt on it. This really started it melting.
Then they got to dump hot water on it.

 And out came the toys!

On another day we talked about igloos and ice. We made our own igloos out of marshmallows, craft glue and styrofoam cups.

Then we went ice skating on top of wax paper.

And of course finished the week out with cooking day and made some chocolate ice cream. Always a class favorite.

It was so much fun seeing how excited they got over everything. I love these kids!
