In like a Lion, out like a lamb

Back in February:

Oh boy, where did March go? I can't believe how quickly the month has gone by! Here are some of the activities we did from the last couple of weeks in Februray.

Dental Health Week- We wrote down all the ways we can keep our teeth healthy and stuck them on a big giant tooth picture. Ms. Julie had a glove that we pretended to be our teeth. We practiced brushing and flossing our teeth while singing a song. We also made a mouth with teeth broken out of styrofoam. (That ended up being a fun mess to clean up:)  We painted with toothbrushes and made our yellow teeth look nice and clean. We played a math game with lots of teeth with different numbers on them. The kids took turns with partners rolling a dice and then would put a dot on the correct number. We also experimented with oreos and apples to see what happened when we ate these foods. The kids loved watching their teeth get clean when they ate the apple after having black all over from the oreos.

Field Trip to Texas Roadhouse!!

Drawing all over the floor with sidewalk chalk.

Tour of the kitchen

Making shapes with our roll dough.

Eating a yummy lunch of hotdogs and fries.

Letter O is for OLYMPICS!

We had our very own olympics and the kids loved it! We made olympic flags and for snack time they made the olympic rings out of fruit loops. For our events we did speed skating with wax paper on our feet. Figure skating- I would show them a card with a ice skating pose and they would dance to music and try to do that "Trick" in their dance. We also had a snowball throwing contest with lots of mini pillows. For snack time we made the olympic torch out of an ice cream cone and ice cream on top. We added red, white and blue sprinkles for the USA. Everyone got a gold medal at the end of class.

Dr. Suess Day

We always love celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday. This year we graphed rainbow fish into the correct group and saw what color we got the most of. We made Cat in the Hats with "at" words on the hat. We played a rhyming game. I would say a little poem and then they had to guess what picture was going to rhyme with the word. We would pull it out of an envelope. We read lots of good books and we had a snack of Green Eggs (White chocolate with a green m&m) and ham at the end of class.

We have been exploring this month and learning about weather. We talked about the saying "In like a Lion, out like a lamb". The kids loved a book that I got from our last Scholastic book order to go with it as well. We have been making a chart with weather words and pictures to see what the weather is like each day. And it looks like March is definitely going out like a lamb. It is suppose to be 71 degrees on tuesday. :) I look forward to taking the kids on a Spring scavenger hunt.

We also learned about the Water Cycle and watched rain form when Ms. Julie boiled some hot water to watch the water evaporate and then the condensation formed on a pan of ice she held above it and then the precipitation came and we watched the rain begin to fall.

We made a water cycle wind sock this day and had a rainy day obstacle course. We jumped on puddles, crawled under a rainbow and jumped and touched the clouds.

This is a fun book the kids love. We made our own storm with our hands and feet after reading it.

St. Patrick's Week

This is one of my favorite holidays! I have to say that my little girl was scared after a leprechaun visited our classroom this week. And she was woke up screaming one night saying he was going to pinch her. The next morning the leprechaun left her a pile of chocolate gold with a note saying he was nice and he was going back to Ireland to be with his family. He asked her to do some secret services with his gold. Every time she did something nice like clean up toys, or make mom and dad's bed, she would leave a gold coin. We had fun doing this with our family and the Leprechaun is no longer something to be scared of. :)

During the week at preschool we made our own leprechauns, we made rainbow toast our of colored milk, we played a game with gold coins and had to sort them into the correct bowl based on what letter was on the gold. If they found a letter G they took giant steps to the bowl, for an O they spun around in O circles, for L they leap frogged, and for D they did a little dance.

We graphed skittles to the right color and did a little addition to go along with it. We played a dice game to put dots on our shamrocks, and a leprechaun named Roy G. Biv came to our class! We tried to trick him the day before leaving some gold glitter in our class. He got out Ms. Julie's green paint and some boots from the doll house and left foot prints all over our class. While we were in class he turned our toilet water green and left us a note with a scavenger hunt to find his gold.

Ok sorry this post is so long. I haven't even added everything. I will end with our last week. We had so much fun this last week learning about police officers and going on a field trip. We made stop signs and talked lots about Stranger Danger. I had some great books to help with that. :)

We also watched the book Officer Buckle and Gloria on Scholastic.com. Afterwards we made our own safety tips and made police officer badges.

We talked about how police officers take fingerprints to help them solve crimes. The kids made their own fingerprint book with stamp pads.

We played a game called "Who is Lost?" One child was the police officer and would leave the room. We would pick another child to hide under a blanket. We would call out "Officer, Officer, my child is lost! Who is it?" The officer would come out with his magnifying glass and figure out who was missing. They loved this game!

And finally we got to visit the Lehi Police Station. We saw their work room, their fingerprint room, the holding cells, their swat truck and got to sit in their police car. At the end we got to meet the police chief and ask him lots of questions. We finished up the first day of Spring at Wine's Park enjoying the nice weather.

I am still trying to upload some pictures from the field trip. I will email those to you when I get them. Can't wait to see everyone this week!
