My favorite time of year!

Ha ha, don't you just love that silly face class picture? Every time I get onto the blog I can't help but laugh.

Thank you for your patience with putting pictures up. We are up and going and the kids are doing great at getting use to our daily routine. I am so proud of all their hard work and their desire to learn new things. Here are some of the things we have been doing:

Letter F week

We made Frankensteins. They turned out so cute and the kids loved them.

We also made a Frankenstein treat out of Oreos and pudding.

We had fun learning all about Fall and going outside collecting our own leaves. They got to make their very own Leaf Man puppet after we read this book.

We worked on some subtraction with this fun little poem. "Five little leaves are hanging on the tree. Along came a breeze and one blew free. The little leaf fell without a sound. Now there are four on the tree and one on the ground."

We also had fun with science this week and got to experiment different items that float in water and those that sink. It always gets too busy so I never get pictures of everything. :)

Letter G Week

We made pop out ghost and learned a fun little poem to go with it. I hope the kids shared it with you at home. They loved doing it in class. "I saw a ghost, and he saw me too. I waved to the ghost, but he said boo!"

We played some fun ghost games as well which was fun since it was so close to Halloween.

We also learned all about germs this week. We watched this video about germs.

After watching the video we did a visual lesson to learn about germs. I sprinkled some glitter on the table and then put my hand on it. I showed the kids how many germs I had picked up and then I asked if I could shake all of their hands. They all got glitter on their hands. I also touched some of our toys and door knobs to show all the germs that could be on those as well when I touched them. We tried to wipe the germs off with our hands but they didn't come off. The only way they could get them off was to wash their hands. We practiced singing the song from the video while we washed our hands.

We also played a game about germs. I made little germs out of paper and hid them in our room. I let the kids go for a scavenger hunt to look for them. When we found a germ we would all blow bubbles on them to kill them.

For art we made our own germs. The kids got to drop paint onto their paper  and then blow it around with a straw to make it look like a germ blob. We added googly eyes to them too.

We also learned all about Giraffes and how sometimes the letter G makes a "j" sound. We read a book that I wrote as a kid about a giraffe and we also read this book.

We learned some fun facts about them. They are the tallest animal on land. They live in Africa. They eat leaves. Their feet are the size of a dinner plate. And their horns are called ossicones.

We made giraffes out of the letter G and painted their spots on them.

At the end of class we played hot potato with a giraffe stuffed animal.

Halloween Party

Some of the fun things we did:
Read some spooky Halloween stories
Pin the Nose on Jack
We made pumpkin sensory bags
Played Don't Eat Jack
Went spider ring fishing

We also made a witch brew and had cupcakes for a snack

H is for Hats

This was one of my favorite days. It was so much fun!
This was my first time reading this book but I loved it. It has a lot of rhyming words in it so the kids can guess what animal will be coming next. Basically it is about a wizard who puts this magic hat on each person. The hat turns the person into an animal. At the end of the book the wizard puts the hat on his own head and he turns into a child. It is a cute book about using your imagination.

We made our own magic hats and the kids got to pretend it turned them into something. We got answers like a princess, a snake, a puppy and much more.

We also read the book Caps for Sale.  I love this book as well!
Afterwards they each got to take turns trying to balance 12 different types of hat on their head just like the man in the book.

We played a game with our hats and bean bags and practiced throwing them into each hat. We also enjoyed playing some balancing games to music with our bean bags.

H is for house

During small groups we had fun sorting items into the correct room of the house.

Letter I is for Ice Cream
The kids loved turning their letter I into a giant ice cream sundae.
I think they loved the homemade ice cream we made even more!

Letter I is for Indians "Native Americans"
We have been learning a lot about the first Thanksgiving and how the Indians helped the Pilgrims when they first moved to America.

I found an interesting fact about the Pilgrims. The Native Americans taught them to put a fish in the soil when planting their crops to help fertilize the soil and make their plants grow better. The kids thought this was so gross. They enjoyed the snack we made though. Chocolate pudding and graham crackers for the soil, then we added a candy corn and a swedish fish to help it grow into corn. :)

With it being close to Thanksgiving we read a book that talks about the little girl being her mom's most grateful thing. I always cry when we read this book.

We made our own corn and the kids drew a picture on the back to show their most thankful thing.

The last couple of days we had a day where we did activities to go along with

We made an old lady puppet with all the different things she ate.

This was such a fun day! We practiced our numbers by counting how many items were on each plate and then putting the correct number on it.

We practiced retelling the story with all the things she ate, and had fun with a lot of rhyming words.

Then we taste tested some of the foods the old lady ate like bread, squash, cake and turkey. The favorite of course was cake and turkey was in second place.

Turkey Day

Fun practicing our numbers by adding stickers to our flip charts.

Sorry for such a long post. It took me about 3 hours to do all of this because my computer is acting up. Probably because Asher drooled a bunch of chocolate onto it yesterday.  :)

Just a reminder that we have a full week this week. Next week we have our field trip to the fire station in North Lehi. And then will have Thanksgiving Break Wednesday and Thursday.
