December

It is never too late to finish up a post. :) Sorry I didn't get to it sooner. I hope you all had a great Christmas with your families.

We had a great month! Here are some pictures of a few things we did.

We started the month off learning about how animals prepare for winter.

We read the book The Mitten by Jan Brett. They each took a turn putting their puppet in my mitten and we acted out the story. Afterwards we made our own mittens practicing cutting skills. Some of the kids even drew pictures of animals to put in their mitten like the book. We also played a fun parachute game this day to go along with our story.

We talked about Hibernation another day and discussed how the animals fatten up before winter so they can sleep for a long time. We read some fun books about hibernation that I got with our book order and then made some caves to hibernate in. Each child collected the snacks they wanted in a bag and would eat before finding a spot to hibernate. They loved when I would turn the lights off and they got to snore before I told them it was spring time. We also made a craft with a bear and added some snow around his cave.

We had a lot of fun on Candy Cane day. We learned that candy canes look like a letter J when turned upside down. The kids got to paint their own candy cane, make a candy cane ornament with patterns, and play with some peppermint candy cane play dough. The recipe for this is on the side bar under play dough.

Polar Express Day

We loved wearing our pajamas to school this day! The kids got a ticket after their morning starter to get on our homemade train. We then read the book The Polar Express. The kids loved drawing a picture of their favorite part of the book. We also made reindeer puppets and bell necklaces. For snack time we had Hot Chocolate and then we watched part of the movie to compare the book to the movie. We graphed which one the kids like more, the book or the movie. The movie was the winner. :)

We also played a fun game where we attached to each other like a human train. We practiced listening to when Mrs. Julie blew a train whistle. 1 blow would mean stop and 2 would mean go. They loved taking turns being the engine.

Snowman Day

We made Snowmen this day and read some fun books about snowmen. We also made our presents for our moms and dads. I hope you enjoyed them. We got to ice skate this day too with wax paper. Mrs. Chelise came as well and did some yoga with us. It went along with the 12 days of Christmas and there was an action for each thing. We were all super tired by the end. It was a great workout!

Christmas Party

We had a great time at our party! We played pin the nose on Frosty, a snowball racing game, Santa, Santa, Elf, Who is hiding under the present?, A stocking game, and made a christmas tree out of sugar cones and frosting/candy.

We still have been working on lots of other things too like writing, letters, numbers, colors, etc. We will be reviewing in January and I will be sending home some progress reports.
