February 2017

We started the month off with Groundhog's Day. We learned some fun facts about groundhogs and watched the video from Pennsylvania to see if Phil saw his shadow or not. I thought maybe he was wrong with how warm it got right after but then we got tons of snow towards the end of February. We made a fun little groundhog puppet and learned a poem to go along with it. We played a shadow game and also made hand puppet shadows on the wall. They loved reading some fun books I have and also learning some new songs.

Valentine Center Day: We did a letter bean bag throwing game, sorted valentine color pom poms with tweezers, made a love bug and played a number movement game for healthy hearts. We also made a valentine for our parents and played a music heart stomp game. They also loved a love bug monster game I made to look for matching letters.

Happy Valentine's Day! We decorated cookies, played a compliment friendship spin the bottle game, Bingo, played who hid the valentine fox and passed out valentines.

February is Dental Health month. We learned about healthy food that keeps our teeth and bodies healthy and foods we shouldn't eat lots of to avoid cavities. They played a game with a bunch of teeth that had pictures of food on them. Each child pretended to be a dentist and pulled a tooth out. They checked to see if it was a good or bad food for our teeth. We painted dirty smiles with white paint and toothbrushes. They loved that!! We did an experiment with oreos and apples to see what they did to our teeth when we ate them. They also made a mouth puppet with marshmallows and counted out 20 teeth to put on to match how many they have in their own mouth.

Shape Day: We are trying to master those tricky shapes like rectangles and triangles. :) We read a book called The Book of Shapes. It is a fun book that turns a shape into a picture. The kids got to pick a few shapes and make their own picture out of them. We had some shape centers to do partner work and extra practice with shapes. They loved making pictures with my magnetic shapes, a bean bag toss with shapes, matching memory game and file folder games with shapes in food and household items. We made shapes with straight pretzels as well during snack time.

Our field trip to Cabella's was so much fun. I hope you had a great time like I did!

What a great month! I finished all out testing and hope everything made sense with the notes I sent home. I am working hard to keep them going and learning lots. Thank you so much for all your help at home! I sure love you guys and your cute kids.
