November 2016

What a wonderful month! I just adore these kiddos so much. They make my day so much brighter and I just love all their kindness and love to me and others. My favorite quote came from a cute little girl this month when we were talking about the Thanksgiving parade. I was telling them about all the things they can see at the parade to go with a book that we were about to read. I asked the kids, "Guess who comes at the end of the parade?" This cute little girl yells,"Donald Trump!!!" haha so funny. I told her someone even better, Santa Clause ;)

This month we started off with a wonderful field trip to see Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory play at Scera Theater. I think it was a little hard for these guys to understand some parts but I hope they had a great time.

We focused on community helpers this month. We started out learning about doctors and their jobs. They made their own doctor bag with things they would need to take care of others. For centers this day we worked with bandaids and a game of one to one correspondence, they counted how hot a thermometer was and we took turns counting while holding an ice pack on our head to cool off our fever, We also put cotton balls in different letter buckets.

For baker day we had such a great time. We read the story The Little Red Hen and the kids made their own little red hen out of the letter R. For centers they played our pie sorting game, they also had to scoop pretend ice cream and put that many scoop on a pie with a number, they made their own creations with our oven play dough set and they flipped cookies to match letters. They loved getting their own baker hat and making Blueberry muffins.

For Farmer day we worked on rhyming words with a fun poem of the big red barn. This was really tricky for most of them but by the end a few of them had it down. For centers we worked on how to hold a pencil and punch holes to help the mommy animal get to her baby. They built their own farm with animals and blocks to make fences, tanagram shapes to make farm animals, fine motor skills with putting beads on the pig, barn match with shapes, and a baby mommy matching puzzle game. We made a sheep for craft time today. They also loved some animal movement cards I made for them to act out different adjectives for each animal.

For Fireman we reviewed a little what we learned form the fire station a couple months ago. They made a fireman out of the letter F. We sorted things that are hot vs. things that are cold and talked about being safe around hot things. We rolled a giant dice to find the matching number for a roll and color game and then made a fire truck for snack time.

I wish I would have taken more pictures for our Thanksgiving day but it was so busy. We played a letter bingo game and learned about the first Thanksgiving with the pilgrims and native american Indians. They loved playing a hokey pokey turkey trot and finding a little turkey in the room and listening for the magic gobble sound to know they were close to it. We talked about things we are grateful for and ways that people can say thank you. We had a Thanksgiving Feast and practiced polite words and manners. They ate turkey, rolls, carrots, string cheese, olives, water and a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. We made turkey hats and Mrs. Chelise came this day to do some Thanksgiving yoga with a big drum she brought. It was such a fun day! I only got one picture. :( Sorry.
