We started the month of September off with lots of modeling routines and good behavior. We played games to get know each other better as well. We have a little class pet(Stuffed Animal) named Tommy the Turtle that comes out to see the kids when they are extra good. They love having a turn to hold him. We worked on shape recognition by starting off with some fun Pete the Cat books and then helping Pete the cat eat different shapes that I Called out. In one of our books Pete went to school and we made a bus like he rode to school in. The kids worked on cutting squares and putting together their own bus. We also made a little bus snack during snack time.
We have been working on our letters a lot and are singing songs that help us spell out our color words. They loved making a letter A turn into an Alligator. We also sang a poem about an alligator and played an alligator swamp game jumping from Letter A lily pads without getting bit by the alligators in the swamp.
We also enjoyed tasting different colors of apples and graphing which one was our favorite. It was a close tie. We read Dr. Suess book Ten Apples Up On Top that is a favorite of mine and then went searching for different letters in an apple tree. Each apple had a fun action for us to do on the back. We traced our arms and hands to make a fun apple tree craft as well this day.
B is for Bears is always fun! We love singing our Bear Song! Bear Hunt Song Link
We played a number game with a bear manipulatives and practiced our fun rhymes on how to draw each number. I will be sending those home later this month. We made a bear cave and each person had a turn to be a bear and growl for which shape they wanted to eat. We then would find that shape to give our bear.
We had some fun games with the color blue that we played and also opened up eggs that told us a different bird and what sound or action they make. We enjoyed pretending to be different birds. During art they got to paint with water colors and make their own bird.
The kids love reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We practiced spelling out our names to add to our own coconut tree in the classroom. We also colored a tree and stamped different letters to go on it. For snack time they loved making a coconut tree out of pretzels, apples and chocolate chips.
C is for Colors! We did lots of mixing this day and loved watching our primary colors turn into new colors. We read lots of color books and enjoyed Harold and the Purple Crayon . We also played a game of picking a colored crayon out of a bag and then raced to find that color all over our classroom. We made a caterpillar out of colored circles as well.
It has been such a fun month and I wish I could post more pictures of all we have been busy working on. I hope this gives you a little glimpse into our classroom. Here are some more fun pictures of having fun with friends.
I am excited to see all of you at the field trip next week!
