March and April 2017

Sorry I am late a month posting for March. I couldn't find my plug to transfer my pictures from my camera. We have been busy learning and having fun along the way!

March started out with Dr. Suess' Birthday. We enjoyed reading some of his books and working on numbers to go with Ten Apples up on Top. They loved measuring how tall they were when we finished putting the numbers in order. We also made our own Wocket in my Pocket and worked on our letter W. We worked a lot on rhyming words and making new words my changing the first letter. I made them a fun little cat in the hat and green eggs and ham treat to take home for the day.

We learned about rain and rainbows and the water cycle. It was so fun to act out their own water cycle as well as make a thunderstorm with our hands and feet. We learned about words that make us do something (adjectives) and practiced jumping on square puddles quietly, loudly, high, low, twirling, etc. They made some fun crafts and we made rain with water and shaving cream and then colored water. They would roll a die to see how many drops to put in and eventually the rain started coming through the clouds.

St Patrick's Day is always one of their favorite days! They love the green paint the leprechaun gets into and leaves a big mess in our room and bathroom. They love the little notes he leaves and the treasure hunt they get to do at the end of the day. We played a gold bingo with letters and paint. Went on a hunt to find gold pieces with the letters G-O-L-D on them. Each letter had a fun action to do with it. We also do a Lucky Charms graph for snack time.

We enjoyed a day of the Little Red Hen to get ready for our Field Trip to California Pizza Kitchen. We compared different stories and made little Hens. We also did Rocket Day to work on letter R a little more. We went on a space trip and acted out what it would be like to go in a rocket to the moon. They made their own rocket out of shapes and wrote a letter of their name on each one.

The weather has been crazy this Spring but we enjoyed a tree day to go out and look at the blossoms or "popcorn" on the tree. We learned what trees are good for and what we can make out of them. We also worked on rhyming words and put them in our popcorn bucket. We made a craft out of the letter T to make it look like a tree. Our favorite books this day were  The Giving Tree and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

Our Easter Day we learned about animals that come from eggs. We read a fun book called Duck Rabbit. The kids made predictions what animal they thought it was. They made a craft that was a duck on one side and a rabbit on the other with a fun poem to go with it. We worked on Spring Letter Bingo and matched eggs with Upper and Lowercase letters. We ended the day with a egg hunt. I didn't get any pictures this day. Some days are just super busy like that ;)

We had a lot of fun on Transportation day. We went on a pretend road trip and had to stop in different parking stalls that had numbers. They would park their car. They also painted with their cars to make some beautiful art work and then gave their car a wash.

U is for Underground and all the things that live underground. For numbers I made a bunch of numbers and worms on index cards. They would call out the number and if it was a worm they would wiggle on the ground like a worm. We made a picture with animals and insects that live underground. We also played some fun games with our parachute to go along with the theme for the day.

The kids have been enjoying our caterpillars. They just recently made their cocoons. Well three of them did. Two died because I left them in the windowsill one day and a bunch of moisture built up and caused a bacteria. Hopefully the rest will emerge into butterflies so I don't have a bunch of sad kids. We have been enjoying learning about the ladybug and butterfly life cycle. Our Ladybug centers were fun. We matched upper and lower case letter lady bugs. Found the ladybug under a covered letter and rolled dice to put spots on a lady bug.
They learned about butterfly symmetry and really worked hard to match colors on each side.

We also had a fun day learning all about volcanoes! They love my big volcano we make explode and they got to make their own mini volcanoes with a plate of baking soda and water vinegar mixture to pour on the top.

Volcano snack, strawberry with whipped cream coming out. The giggles when we did this made my day.

Mrs. Chelise sent me a few pictures of the kids during partner yoga one day and the field trip. Sorry I didn't get more these days.

I sure love these guys! They have grown so much this year! We are busy finishing up curriculum and getting ready for our graduation party.
