May (2 months late!)

I am so sorry I never posted these pictures. I thought I had updated May's blog and then when I was loading pictures from the summer I noticed all of these. Better late then never though right :)

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. I have missed seeing some of you that aren't in summer preschool. I hope all is well and thank you again for a wonderful last year.

Shape Day

We read, The Book of Many Shapes as a class. This book takes a shape and adds things to it to turn it into something else we might see everyday.

We made a list of all the different things in our world that are different shapes and then they got to create their own part of the book. I love watching how creative they are.

We also went on a shape hunt around our room and for snack time had snacks that were different shapes like rectangle-Graham cracker, Circle-Oreo, Triangle-Bugles, Square-Cheese Its. We also played a game that they had to guess what shape was in my bag. For my older kids I would put lots of foam shapes in the bag and told them what shape they needed to find. They had to fill each side to find the right shape.

Shark Day

We learned the sh sound this day. We had pictured of different words that started with the letter sh and some with sharks. If they picked a sh word we would make the sound the letters make and if they picked a shark they got to make a chomping noises and snap their hands. We also made shark puppets and had a snack with shark fruit snacks.

Money Day

We learned all the names and value of each coin and watched a video of kids that go to a bank on a field trip.
We had different money centers this day. The first one was a candy store. They had to pick up a paper that had pennies on it and they could buy that many gumboils (pom poms)
The second one they tossed the coin to see if they got heads or tails and did quarter rubbings
Third was rolling a dice to see how many quarters, dimes and nickels to stack and see how high of a tower they could make.
Fourth was sorting a bucket of coins to make groups.

During the day they earned quarters for good behavior and at the end of the day got to buy a treat out of our little vending machine. They love this.

Pet Day
The kids loved this day. We talked about different pets and what it takes to take care of them. We sang some fun songs about animals and played follow the leader to act like different animals.
We rotated through centers to make a craft, Fins a missing feather, make play dough pets, toss bean bags in dog bowls, and pick a number and put that many "stuffed" pets in the bed. For snack time we had some scooby snacks.

Vacation Day
For circle time we discussed who has been in a plane before, stayed in a hotel, been on a long car ride etc.
Game- Should it stay or should it go?
I showed the kids different pictures of places we could go on a vacation and had a large suitcase full of stuff I had packed for our vacation. They had to tell me if I needed it or didn't. They thought it was really funny when I was bringing a whisk to the beach or a piano book camping.
They did some journal writing and drew a picture of where they would want to go on a vacation. We also made suitcases and packed the different things they would need.
We read Dr. Suess Oh the Places You'll GO

We also practiced for our graduation night a bunch and continued working on preparing for Kindergarten through the month.

Teddy Bear Picnic

What a fun day!
We went on a bear hunt, sorted our bears by size, color and if they made noise or had clothes on. We measured our bears we brought to class and played hot potato with each bear to the song Teddy Bear Picnic. We had a a picnic outside and played parachute with our bears and sang a song. Mrs. Chelise came and did yoga with our bears as well. It was a really fun day.

We finished the year out with our bowling party and graduation.

I hope you had a great year! I saw so much growth in your children this year and my older class is so ready to move up to the big school. :) They were such a joy to teach and I look forward to those of you who are returning in the fall. Thank you again for all you do!
