Here are some pictures from the month of things we have been doing:
Our first day was zoo day, we looked at different animals and had to match them to the correct habitat they lived in.
We played a game like musical chairs except when the music stopped they had to freeze next to a picture and act out the animal they were standing by.
We read the book, Good Night Gorilla and then acted it out with somebody being the zoo keeper and someone being the gorilla and the rest of the kids were animals from the zoo.
For a fun craft we made elephants with trunks that blow out and had some animal crackers in a zoo cage for a snack.
Father's Day
For Father's Day we learned about different animals that have great dads. The Fox plays with his pups and teaches them how to hunt for food by hiding their food and playing little game with them.
The seahorse holds the eggs in his pouch and his belly gets really big and then he pops out the baby seahorses. The kids found this really funny. The sea catfish picks up the eggs and holds them in his mouth until they hatch. He can't eat during this time and lives off his body fat for 10 days.
The Great Horned Owl brings food to the mother owl while she keeps the eggs warm. When the babies hatch he gets food for the babies as well for a few days until they learn to hunt on their own.
Instead of playing Mother May I? We played Father May I?
We sang a version of BINGO except it went like this:
I love my daddy, He's the best
My daddy is a great one
D-A-D-D-Y, D-A-D-D-Y, D-A-D-D-Y
And Daddy is his name o
We sang another fun song that the kids had to pick a picture of a dad off of a poster board. Each dad had a picture of something that dads do, like mowing the lawn, shaving, riding a bike, etc. They got to act out each thing while singing a song.
They loved making a card for their dad and taking home some POP rocks
Solar System Day
Climb aboard the spaceship
We're going to the moon

We're going to blast off soon

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Blast Off!
We sang this song to start off our day. We talked about outer space and how the earth moves around the sun. When we are facing away from the sun it is night time and when we are it is day time. We played a game of me calling out different activities and they would pretend to sleep if that happened at night time and would make a giant sun if it happens during the day. We went to the moon and listened to slow moon music and pretended to float and move slowly. We put together a floor puzzle of all the planets and counted them and reviewed the different names of them. We made a space picture with our names being a constellation of stars and then added foam stickers for outer space.
We rotated through different centers as well. They threw bean bags onto a star and each star had a number. Their partner would tell them an action and they had to do it that many times. They got to throw moon rocks into a bucket, build rockets and stars out of tanagrams, use a marble in a round cake pan to rotate around the sun, and add eyes to play dough to make an alien.
Robot Day
The kids made their own robot out of squares and rectangles, I love seeing their creations. They are so creative and are so proud of themselves. We played a game like simon says except it was robot says and they had to talk in a robot voice and use robot movements.
We played a game with our parachute where one child would hide under the parachute and if they touched you it was your turn to say, "I am a robot" and they got to hide under the parachute.
For centers we played with our gears and made different machines, added bolts and washers to a piece of pipe cleaner for fine motor skills, checked a box to see what things are magnetic and made out of metal and used dominos to count the buttons and put it to the correct robot.
For a snack this day I had fun making a creation from pinterest.

It was a great first month! I can't wait for July.
