My 4 year old class had fun making their own pictures out of shapes.
For Letter I day we made an Ice Cream cone out of a letter I and also made homemade ice cream. This day we also got ready for our field trip to the fire station. We drew pictures of different places we might see a fire and learned that fire needs oxygen, fuel and heat to keep going. They loved watching me light a candle and then we covered it with a mason jar. The air runs out of oxygen and the fire goes out. The kids loved reminding me that we should never play with matches or lighters.
We practiced and discussed what to do when there is a fire alarm. Afterwards they got to make their way through an obstacle course. They crawled on a board, stop dropped and rolled, climbed under a table, called the firefighters at 911 and the got a noodle and sprayed out the fire. Definitely their favorite thing from the day. :)
Thank you for your help at the fire station! I was bummed we didn't get a class picture but so happy we were able to at least get the entire field trip in.
We had a great day reading the book I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie. After we read the book we sorted different foods of what she did and didn't eat. During centers they had to count how many things were on a plate and then put the correct number of items on the plate. We also compared B words to P words by listening to the beginning sound. The kids got to taste test cake, squash, bread and turkey and graph whether or not they liked it or not. The Squash was pretty funny. Only a few tried it but one boy actually liked it. :) At the end of the day the kids got to make their own pie. This was a favorite of the day.
K is for Kangaroos
On this day we had pita pouches to put our snacks in. The kids practiced writing their letter K on a Kangaroo pouch they made with a baby Joey in it. We also played a fun game to practice our shapes. I put on an apron with a big pouch and they each took turns feeling for the shape I told them to find. They had to feel for how many sides each shape had before pulling out the correct shape. For music they loved playing freeze dance while hopping like a kangaroo.
Pilgrim and Native American Indian day
We learned all about the pilgrims coming to America and how the Indians helped them learn how to hunt for food, plant crops and build houses. To thank their new friends they had the first Thanksgiving. The kids got to make bead bracelets and feathered hats. We also looked at different symbols the indians used to write that is different than writing letters. We played a butterfly game that the children liked to play and had our snacks in a ice-cream cone to look like a cornucopia.
On our last day this month we decorated a tablecloth that a mom donated to our class, we made turkeys, did some Thankful Yoga with Miss Chelise, and had a delicious feast. It was a wonderful day!
And finally....Our Thankful Turkey of all the things we are Thankful for!
