Fun in July

Wow this summer has been going by so quickly! Just a quick reminder that we only have 3 classes left and our last day will be Friday, August 15th. I have been having so much fun with these kids and just love seeing them so happy.

Here are some of the things we have been doing.

Pioneer Day

We made log cabins when they first came and talked about the differences in how the pioneers lived compared to how we live now.

We made covered wagon pictures.

Then we played some fun games that the pioneer children like to play, This one is called Feather Dance. The object of the game is to not let the feather touch the ground and you can't touch the feather. You can fan it and blow it. They loved this one and started to get pretty good at it.

The next game is called "Birdie in my cup". Each child got a turn to hold the cup of water that has a pretend birdie in it. This birdie is a color that only the person holding the cup knows. They ask each person what color their birdie is. When the color is guessed correctly they get sprinkled with water.

We also made homemade butter this day to have with crackers for snack time and sang a couple fun songs about covered wagons and pioneers.

Pirate Day

This is always one of my favorite days! I have so many fun books about pirates and the kids love talking like a pirate all day. This is one of my new books that I got with my last book order for our class. It was definitely the favorite one of the day.

We made a parrot for all of our pirates.

We dressed up like pirates.

And at the end of the day we found a treasure map that took us all around Mrs. Julie's house to finally find a treasure box full of gold chocolates.

Rain Forest Day

We started the day with a big floor puzzle of the rain forest.

We read the book The Umbrella by Jan Brett.

We made our own rainforest by painting lots of green and mixing blue and yellow. We also added green leaves and glitter for the raindrops.

We tried different food from the rainforest and voted on which one we liked most. We tried bananas, chocolate, kiwi, mango, papaya and coconut. I am sure you can guess that chocolate was the favorite! Too bad I couldn't find a cocoa bean to show them what it looks like before all the sugar is added.

And we played hot potato with a rainforest tree frog that looks just like the frog from out book.

Camping Day

This day was so much fun. We mostly had fun with a lot of dramatic play this day.

We went fishing and made a lake with puzzle pieces. We fished for different colored fishes.

We made fires out of blocks and tissue paper.

We played in Mrs. Julie's big tent and also used flashlights to read and look for animals in the mountains.

We made fires out of paint and our hands.

And we finished the day with smores.

As you can see, we have been busy and enjoying our summer.
