Rain Forests and Robots

I have loved some of the art work we have done the last couple of weeks. The kids have such great imaginations and are so creative.

For Rain forest day we started off by reading a couple of books.

I love the book The Umbrella because it has a hidden tree frog on almost every page. After reading this book we passed around my giant frog and played hot potato with him while listening to jungle music.

We also made our own rainforest pictures and glued on leaves, grass, and glitter for our raindrops.

This guy made some great looking jungle green paint by mixing the colors.

What am I going to do without Miss Lyndsay this Fall? She is such a great help and the kids love her. We will all miss her when she goes back to teaching her own preschool class in a couple of weeks.

They all loved using my sponge stamps too.

We also had a robot day. I asked a little guy if he would bring his robot dog he got for his birthday to share with the class. He was so excited to show him off. He taught the class that robots are not real people or animals, they need batteries, they have a button to push to start them, and they are really cool and smart!

We made our own robots out of squares and rectangles. The kids were so creative and loved putting hair, shoes, and even bellybuttons on them.

At the end of class I taught them how to dance like a robot and we had fun grooving to some techno music.

Ocean Animals and Farm Animals

First of all just a quick note to my parents: We have a couple weeks left of preschool for the summer. Just a reminder that our last day will actually be on a Tuesday rather than a Wednesday. It will be Tuesday, June 21 same time :)

Sorry, I got a little behind the last couple of weeks.

Here are some of the things we did.

Ocean Day:

We read this book. I love talking about all the rhyming words in it and I also have the cd that goes with this book. The kids love listening to it and all the fun sound effects it has.

We also played a game. If I said the name of a land animal the kids would pretend to walk like the animal, if I said an ocean animal they would swim and we added in animals that fly and would pretend we were flying. They really liked the part when they got to be the teacher and pick an animal for us to act out.

We also made octopus for art today. We just traced the 4 fingers on each hand and then connected them with a curve. They got to decorate them and add suction cups on their tentacles.

For farm day we started the day off reading a book of Old MacDonald and sang along. We then came up with a list of all the different animals and crops that a farmer has. We added them to a big poster board and talked about what each animal gives us. i.e. Cows give us milk and beef, pigs give us ham and bacon, bees give us honey.

They got to play with the poster board during centers today.

Miss Lyndsey had fun reading books with them about farms.

I even got out all my Fisher Price farm toys from when I was a kid.

And finally we made our own butter. Just whipping cream and a little salt. Put it in a jar and have the kids take turns shaking it up. Then we had it on crackers. Yum Yum! I had leftovers and just had it on corn on the cob last night. I think everyone should make their own butter. This stuff is DELICIOUS!
