Camping Day

We went camping today! We read some camping books about camping, fishing and bears.

We sang one of our favorite songs: Going on a Bear Hunt

We made a list of all the things we need to go camping: Tent, sleeping bags, food, flashlights, marshmallows, and fishing gear.

And then we set off:

We fished at our water table.

We made some play food for dinner and slept in our tent.

And then we finished the day up with some S'mores. 

It sure was a fun day! 

Outer Space

What a fun day! I was so surprised to see all the things the kids already knew about our solar system. They could all identify the earth, sun and moon. They knew some of the names of different planets. And they knew that astronauts fly in rockets and can bounce on the moon.

We also talked about why they can float in outer space, the milky way, what each planet looks like and how astronauts can live so far away.

I just love finding fun craft ideas on Pinterest. This was a great craft that we sprayed white watered down paint onto black paper and then added our planets, some stars and glitter. (I am sure there has to be a planet that looks glittery :)

I love this book! It is about a Bold Lady that does everything she can to finally catch a star. The kids really loved it and were so excited when she finally got a rocket. They knew she would finally catch one.

 They also loved this book because it has real pictures of the Solar System.

We made astronaut food. Well not really but talked about how they eat everything out of packets that have dried food.

Ours turned into Vanilla pudding.

Good thing Miss Julie had enough to have seconds and thirds.

The two little Scientists who thought it would be fun to look at their planets with  "telescopes" to see all the craters and spots on each planet.

Land of the Free

Last week was Independence Day. We talked about living in America and I showed them a map of the United States of America. We talked about the American Flag and what colors are on it, as well as what the Stars and Stripes represent. We also practiced saying the Pledge of Allegiance and what it means to live in America and be free. Afterwards, we made our own flags. They had a lot of fun with these. I think next time I need to buy more stars though. Everyone wanted to put all 50 on their flags :)

 Water Sensory Table: I love the cute little girl who was all decked out in her 4th of July attire. One of the kids said she looked just like a flag.  (Complete opposite of my little girl who rolled out of bed at 9:45  and was still in her pajamas. :)

Olympic Games

Since the Olympics are going on right now, I thought is would be a lot of fun to have an Olympic Day for preschool today. We talked about all the different events they have in the Summer Olympics. (Well not all of them, but a lot) and we talked about how there are Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. I also shared that my favorite part about watching the olympics is when someone from America wins the GOld Medal. I love listening to the Star Spangled Banner and watching the American flag rise.

We headed outside to do some of our activities. For the hammer throw I just got a brown paper bag and filled it with garbage sacks and then tied a string on it. The kids had to spin 3 times and then throw it to see how far they could get it. 

Thank you Miss Lindsey for having your phone today to take pictures when my camera died:) You are the best! 

We did the Javelin Throw as well. I taped 4 straws together and they got 3 tries to try and get their javelin in the basket. 

We also did sprints to see who was the fastest runner and one little guy wanted to see who could jump the highest. 

At the end we played parachute with blankets and had some drinks and snacks. 

Everyone was a winner and got a gold medal! 

Pirate Day

ARRR!!! It was pirate day today and we had a great time!

We read some books about pirates: I love that these books come with a CD because they do a much better job sounding like a real pirate.

Every pirate has a pet parrot so we made some parrots and put on our pirate hats and eye patches. 

And finally some pirates left us a treasure map that had a picture of a tub on it? 

We found other picture clues that took  us to different parts of our preschool room and finally outside where the pirates left us a treasure chest full of chocolate gold and smarties! These were definitely some nice pirates!
